The Crawfish hopes all of y’all had a very blessed Christmas, and wishes a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year to ya, even if the Democrats want to ruin all prosperity and health in our nation.
Every single news and sports network in America is doing their annual retrospectives this week, but many of them are doing retrospectives of the DECADE. This truly shows how atrocious the American education system is, since the decade does not end for another year. All decades are based on the Gregorian calendar, which has the A.D. years beginning with the birth of Jesus. The year of Jesus’ birth is 1 A.D., which means the first decade was years 1-10. Decades and millennia ALWAYS end with a year ending in 0. We had this argument 10 years ago, when all of the morons of the world celebrated the end of the 2nd Millennium with the arrival of Y2K instead of with the end of the 2000th year.
The Hopenhagen Conference is over, and how does Mother Nature send a message? She gives Dallas, TX, its first white Christmas in over 80 years. Two-thirds of the country had snow on the ground for the holiday. So who still believes in the fraud known as Glo-Bull Warming?
ClimateGate isn’t the only instance of fraud in the pursuit of radical environmentalism. The Glo-Bull Warming scam artists now have the US Department of Agriculture as a co-conspirator. The computer models forecasting the results of climate change legislation supported by The Chosen One showed that the US would lose 59,000,000 acres of farmland as it would be more lucrative for farmers to plant forests than food crops. This isn’t good, so Agriculture Secretary Vilsack has ordered his staff to change the computer model.
We almost had another episode of what The Chosen One’s Administration calls “man-caused disasters” on Christmas day, as a Nigerian member of Al Qaeda tried to detonate an explosive on a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. How will the Democrats try to explain this one away without mentioning Islamic terrorism? Well, the President called the terrorist an “isolated extremist” even though he has claimed to be part of Al Qaeda, and Al Qaeda confirms his claim.
The Affirmative Action Injustice Department moved quickly in this case to get civilian court charges placed against the Islamic terrorist, so that all interrogations of him would be forcibly ended. Oh, and the charges have a maximum penalty of 40 years. Attempt to murder over 200 people and get off in 25 years with good behavior. He should have been considered an illegal enemy combatant and turned over to the military and the CIA. This was an act of war, not just a passenger misbehaving.
Homeland Security Ditz Nappy Napolitano initially said that the fact that the attack was prevented from being successful showed that “the system worked.” Oh, so letting someone on many terrorist watch lists and whose father had gone to American officials and warned them about his son board an airliner with over 200 people on board and only having the plane land safely because he was unable to properly detonate his high quality explosives shows that the system worked? Nappy went on to say that there was no evidence that this was part of a larger plot, although the Islamic terrorist himself said more were being prepped in Yemen to do the jobs. Eventually, the ditz had to go back on the air to say that her comments were out of context and that the system had “failed miserably” despite what she had previously said.
Dan Calabrese of North Star National says that when it comes to airline security, it is time for Americans to get over their privacy issues. Besides, Senator Dodd believes we need LESS security at airports, and even took money away from airport security to give it to one of his constituencies.
Nappy, The Arrogant One (Press Secretary Gibbs), and other Administration officials went into their default campaign mode in the aftermath of the failed Islamic terrorist attack. They blamed George W. Bush. So let me get this straight. This guy’s father called the US Embassy in Nigeria and warned them about his son, which means the Hillary! State Department had full knowledge of him. He was on multiple watch lists. He had no passport. He was in Yemen from August to mid-December. He had contacts with the same Islamic terrorist cleric that the Fort Hood Islamic terrorist had. He purchased a one-way ticket with cash and had no baggage other than his backpack. How many red flags does it take for the Obama Administration to see a threat over their “Blame Bush” glasses?
Don’t think that I’m NOT giving the Bush Administration any blame. They do get some, since two of the top leaders of Al Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula were guests of ours in Gitmo until they were released into the custody of Saudi Arabia for “rehabilitation” in 2007. (Tip of The Crawfish’s hat goes to RJ of Paul Revere’s Riders)When will our government’s leaders realize that this is not just a war against “extremists” or terrorist organizations? The whole of Islam is fighting us and has been for over 1300 years. There is no such thing as a “rehabilitated” terrorist or a rehabilitated muslim. They can only be “rehabilitated” by God when they are dead. It’s our job to arrange the meeting.
Since it is now common knowledge that many terrorist training camps are in Yemen, and that this terrorist and those who attacked the USS Cole were trained, equipped, and had their operations planned in Yemen, one might understand the Republican objections to the pro-Islamic terrorism Obama Administration’s plans to transfer 80 terrorists from Gitmo to Yemen. It appears that some Democrats are starting to figure that out as well.
The First Fashion Disaster is at it again. She’s been photographed, while on the family’s multi-million dollar Hawaiian vacation, wearing shoes that are priced at $635.00. The Crawfish has seen much nicer shoes at Payless Shoes for under $50.00. The family is spending over $4,000.00 per night to stay in a mansion (their actual home is still in Chicago), and this whole adventure is excessively expensive (air travel for the family, staff, security people, and security equipment to Hawaii ain’t cheap), but there are no liberals complaining about the cost. Those same folks were screaming about the cost of W’s trips to his own ranch in his actual home state.
For the second time in his reign, His Majesty King Bu’raq al Obama has a chance to give support to opposition forces in Iran, but instead will let I’minajihad handle the situation however he wishes.
How’s that “stimulus” workin’ out? Down in The Crawfish’s home state there’s a $163,000,000.00 program to winterize homes for po’folk. So far, $1,800,000.00 has been spent and they’ve managed to caulk up a whopping SEVEN homes! For that price, you could have BOUGHT twenty four homes at $75,000.00 each, which will buy a three bedroom, two bath, two car garage home in my neighborhood.
Do any of y’all think the Affirmative Action Attorney General will do anything about this request for an investigation into the activities of White House Muscleman Rahm “Ballerina” Emanuel? There are a lot of big liberal names, including Emanuel, Franklin Raines, and Jamie Gorelick, deeply involved with the fiscal shenanigans of Fannie and Freddie. They made tens of millions each driving those entities into ruin, while using accounting tricks and lies to Congress to keep the oversight committees in the dark until Freddie and Fannie helped cause the credit collapse of 2008. Notice that Emanuel even wrote a loophole into laws regarding F&F just before he left Congress. But it was all Bush’s fault, right?
Once again the Obama Administration is getting angry at Israel because Israel has the temerity to build housing within their own national borders. The Israeli government has approved the construction of 700 apartments in eastern Jerusalem, and that upsets the Islamic world, which means it upsets the Obama Administration. I’ll say it again. This is like China getting upset at the US for building housing in San Diego, since it was once a part of Mexico.
In the wake of the Senate’s passage of the Cash For Cloture Obamacare Bill, Senator DeMint struck a blow for the vast majority of Americans who oppose the Obamacare monstrosity. He objected to the appointment of conferees, which means that unless the House passes the Senate bill UNCHANGED, then whatever comes back to the Senate still needs 60 votes to pass. Good job, Senator!
There is another reason that the Democrats are scrambling to get the final passage of Obamacare as soon as possible. On January 19th, there will be a special election in Taxachusetts for the Senate seat formerly occupied by Teddythedrunk (D-Chappaquiddick). State Senator Scott Brown is taking on Democrat Martha Coakley. Coakley is a supporter of all far left issues, and only reluctantly supports the Senate Obamacare bill. She opposes all abortion restrictions. Coakley also refuses to have a one-on-one televised debate against Brown, which proves that she’s running scared. If Brown can win against her, that will give the GOP 41 votes to block Obamacare in the Senate.
Gawd, I love the Great State of Texas. State Attorney General Greg Abbott is going to fight Obamacare in federal court once it passes. South Carolina’s AG is also going to fight it. This fight ain’t anywhere near over!
The Affirmative Action Attorney General’s Injustice Department just removed Christopher Coates from his post as head of the voting rights section and transferred him to South Carolina. Casual news watchers might not find this newsworthy, but anybody who has paid attention to the happenings in the Injustice Department would remember that it was Coates who pressed the charges against the New Black Panther Party for their obvious voter intimidation tactics in Filthadelphia on Election Day 2008. The Injustice Department later dropped the charges on orders from Holder and his buddy Bu’raq.
If y’all come across any weird/stoooopid/strange news stories that might be fodder for The Weekly Claw or The Weekend Claw, e-mail them to me at CrawfishsClaw@yahoo.com and I’ll consider ‘em. Yes, I will give you newshounds credit.
“If, from the more wretched parts of the old world, we look at those which are in an advanced stage of improvement, we still find the greedy hand of government thrusting itself into every corner and crevice of industry, and grasping the spoil of the multitude. Invention is continually exercised, to furnish new pretenses for revenues and taxation. It watches prosperity as its prey and permits none to escape without tribute.” – Thomas Paine

12-22-09 The Weekly Claw
The Claw will not be publishing this coming Friday. In spite of Dingy Harry’s desire to have a major vote late on Christmas Eve, The Crawfish has better things to do that night, like assemble and/or wrap a bunch of stuff for the smaller Crawfishes and celebrate the birthday of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Remember the reason for the season, folks.
The Filthadelphia area hates me. How else can you explain how my first winter being stationed here saw the biggest snowstorm in area history (January 7-8, 1996) and my last winter here sees the 2nd biggest snowstorm in area history, and by far the biggest ever in December. Yo Algore! Glo-Bull Warm THIS!
As of December 9th, the Rasmussen polls show that 50% of likely voters and 60% of mainstream voters say climate change is primarily due to long-term planetary trends, while only 34% believe the lies of the Prophet Algoracle. On the other hand, 80% of the political class believes the inconvenient lies. In related polling, 66% of Americans want SMALLER government with fewer services and less taxes, with only 22% wanting Democrat-marxist-socialism with bigger and more intrusive government together with the higher taxes it would require. Do Dingy Harry Reid and Queen of the House Red Nanny P-Lousy care what the public thinks? To quote Red Nanny, “Are you serious?”
Y’all are gonna absolutely love the latest proposal of how to deal with the global warming that, in reality, stopped a decade ago. Nathan Myhrvold, the former technology officer of Microsoft, wants to use balloons to carry a hose into the upper atmosphere and pump out sulfer particles up there to block solar radiation. What makes this dingbat think we’re going to trust someone from Microsoft, the makers of computer systems that crash constantly? Can you say VISAT?
It seems that some people don’t appreciate the new LED Christmas lights, preferring the old incandescent glass bulbs. While that may be okay for nostalgia, The Crawfish definitely prefers the energy efficient and longer lasting LED bulbs. One advantage is that the LED bulbs hold their color year after year because they are much cooler. Blue, red, and green regular lights see their color wash out after a couple of years, and don’t even get me started on purple lights that are more pink than purple (a necessity for Halloween time). I’m just waiting for LED bulbs for inside the home, to replace those mercury-filled curly bulbs that we’re now using for their efficiency.
What? You oppose Obamacare? You racist pig!
THIS is what you get with socialist health care. Why are the liberals pushing for Obamacare? Certainly it is not to increase the quality or price of health care.
“I don't know if there's a senator that doesn't have something in this bill that was important to them, and if they don't have something in it important to them, then it doesn't speak well of them.” That quote comes from Dingy Harry Reid. That’s kinda like saying “I had Lady Liberty tied up and on Rohypnol in my office and if your Senator didn’t take advantage of her you should question his manhood.” He’s BRAGGING that he allowed every Democrat Senator to put whatever they wanted in the bill, and damn the Constitution and the opinions of the American people.
One of the key talking points in the liberals’ war on quality health care is that the eeeeeeevilllllll insurance companies sometimes deny coverage. Too bad that the government-run Medicare program denies coverage at a greater rate than the insurance companies do. Truth sux, libs.
Continuing with the truth sux department, another of the liberal talking points is that the GOP has not put forth any plans of their own. The truth is that the GOP has done so time and again, but the Democrats refuse to even allow committee discussion. Here’s the website for the GOP’s House version of a health care bill and how it compares to the fiasco the anti-Constitutionalists are forcing down our throats.
“On average, an American dies from lack of health insurance every 10 minutes.” Yes, Dingy Harry Reid has declared lack of insurance to be the greatest cause of death in our nation. The fact that such over-the-top lies are allowed to go unchallenged in our media is exceedingly disturbing. Prepare for the biggest boondoggle in American history, unless legal challenges regarding the Constitutionality of this pile of dung can be mounted and succeed. One challenge should be to the sweetheart deal that Traitor Ben got for Nebraska. That state’s Medicaid bills will be permanently paid by the federal government, unlike those of the other 49 states. Is that the Constitutionally required equality under the law?
Senator DeMint points out that Dingy Harry is definitely breaking Senate rules (which take a 2/3 vote to do) and probably the Constitution itself by inserting a provision in his Obamacare bill that forbids any future Congress from repealing the Independent Medicare Advisory Board section of the bill. His provision states that “it shall not be in order in the senate or the house of representatives to consider any bill, resolution, amendment, or conference report that would repeal or otherwise change this subsection.” Not only is this subsection a violation of Senate rules and the Constitution, but it also proves that Dingy Harry is severely grammatically challenged, as the Senate and the House of Representatives are supposed to be capitalized when used as proper nouns. So not only do we have proof that Reid doesn’t have an 8th grade civics education (knowledge of the Constitution), but that he is also missing a 5th grade grammar education.
What kinds of threats did the White House and Senator Reid levy against Senator Ben Nelson? Nelson was against the Obamacare bill as long as it didn’t prohibit taxpayer funds for abortions, but the word is that the Reid bill still contains a fee that all insurance premiums must contain to pay for abortions. In other words, the government subsidized health plans will still cover abortion. The plan will still cost $2,500,000,000,000.00 over the first ten years that it is in place, not counting the first 3 years during which the plan hasn’t started but taxes are levied to pay for it, and the only reason it isn’t $3 TRILLION is that it does what the Democrats have always falsely accused the GOP of doing. It CUTS MEDICARE by $500,000,000,000.00, although it is expanding Medicare coverage. How in the )@#*$@^ do you cut a program by $500,000,000,000.00 while expanding it at the same time?
Michelle (***sigh***) Malkin has come up with Obamacare Bribe List #2 to go along with the original bribe list from November. Yes, the only way to pass this garbage is to literally buy votes. Since the American people are opposed to this bill by a 61% to 32% margin by polls from last week, this crop of Senators and Congresscritters is cutting their own throats to pass this bullroar. They’re hoping that the eventual payoff comes from all of the good little leeches of society who, starting in 2015, will start getting everything for FREEFREEFREE and will be permanent Democrat voters.
The Wall Street Journal has a fantastic expose on the Obamacare bill and process. The title is “Change Nobody Believes In” and ain’t that the truth.
Dan Calabrese of North Star National weighs in with a simple combination of an observation and a question. Since the Obamacare bill would start raising taxes immediately to pay for benefits years down the line, what are they going to do with the money in the meantime?
It seems that ABC’s Cokie Roberts has been sniffing the Obamacare cokie. A simple reality check would tell her that the more Americans find out about the bills, the more they oppose them.
Senior White House Advisor David “Weaselface” Axelrod seems to think Obamacare won’t be a negative for the Dems in November’s elections, which shows that he is in definite need of a urinalysis. He thinks that the polls will look good for the Donkeys a year from now “this wave of insurance reforms are implemented.” Someone needs to inform this idjut that no reforms are going to be implemented in the next year, just taxes raised.
Chicago on the Potomac is indeed a reality. During a closed-door meeting between Congressional Democrats and the President, King Bur’aq al Obama told one Congresscritter from Oregon who has not voted the party line on some important issues, “Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother.”
There’s even a Florida branch office of Chicago on the Potomac. Democrat moonbat Congresscritter Alan Grayson has sent a letter to the Affirmative Action Attorney General demanding that conservative activist Angie Langley be arrested and imprisoned for running a website that criticizes him and is raising money for his defeat. The website is www.mycongressmanisnuts.com and so far has raised $3,725.00, which must really scare an incumbent Democrat. On one hand, I actually support Grayson in one way. The website name is defamatory. Saying Grayson is nuts is an insult to all people out there who really are nuts. Visit that site and become a fan of theirs on Facebook or Twitter.
The Imperial Federal Gummint is now imposing a new restriction upon the airlines, saying that they cannot have passengers sitting in a plane on the tarmac for over 3 hours. Earth to the feds: the airlines are trying to abide by the schedules that they have given to the FAA. The aircraft leave their gates at specified times, and from then on are in the hands of the FAA’s air traffic controllers. Therefore, it is the GOVERNMENT that is causing the delays, so put the restrictions on the FAA, not the airlines, you dweebs.
“(T)his has the hand of the divine written over it. It's almost as if God wanted to be involved.” Those are the words of Daisy Khan, executive director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement. What she’s talking about is a house of terrorist planning…..er…”worship” being built by the Followers of the Pedophilic False Prophet in a building that was seriously damaged by a landing gear assembly from one of the aircraft that hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Yes, since this building was damaged by the crashes, it can be considered part of Ground Zero, a holy shrine of Islamic terrorism. They even admit that they will have a souvenir shop, calling it “merchandising options”. The spokespeople say that it will be all about reconciliation and teaching that Islam is a peaceful religion and that all violence is because of the United States. Since we all know that the Koran COMMANDS that all non-muslims must be converted, enslaved, or put to the sword, we must point out in this instance that the Koran specifically states that it is good to lie to the Infidel about your plans to destroy him. A tip of The Crawfish’s hat goes to RJ of Paul Revere’s Riders for this story.
Merry Christmas to all of the Islamic terrorists out there. His Majesty King Bur’aq al Obama I has decided to send a dozen of your friends back home to Afghanistan, Somalia, and Yemen to be released back into the wild. Once again, he proves which side he’s on in this war.
We’ll close with some greetings that were sent to me by a number of readers, but first by Townhall blogger “INTHENOW”:
To my liberal friends:Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2010. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, family status, or sexual orientation of the wishee. To my conservative friends:Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
And with that, may you all have a blessed CHRISTmas or Happy Hanukkah, and remember the reason for the season.

If y’all come across any weird/stoooopid/strange news stories that might be fodder for The Weekly Claw or The Weekend Claw, e-mail them to me at CrawfishsClaw@yahoo.com and I’ll consider ‘em. Yes, I will give you newshounds credit.

12-18-09 The Weekend Claw
Well, it’s time to stand by for snow shoveling up here in the suburbs of Filthadelphia. We’re expecting 7-10 inches of Glo-Bull Warming on Saturday.
A year or two ago, The Prophet Algoracle went to London for a conference of The Gorons, and as a result London got its earliest snowfall ever. This year, His Majesty King Bur’aq al Obama I goes to Copenhagen for a conference of The Gorons and Copenhagen gets smacked with a heavy snow. Could somebody at a much higher paygrade than The Crawfish (or King Bur’aq, or The Prophet Algoracle) be sending them a message that HE, not THEY, is in charge of weather?
ClimateGate is getting even bigger. Now the Russians are saying that the British Glo-Bull Warming activist “scientists” changed Russian temperature data in order to make Glo-Bull Warming appear much greater than reality.
His Majesty has declared a “meaningful breakthough” in Copenhagen. Too bad he’ll need at least 7 Republicans to sign onto whatever he presents to the Senate. T’ain’t gonna happen, McGee.
The Daily Express in England gives us 100 reasons that Glo-Bull Warming is not man-made.
No wonder Barack Obama and the Democrats want to impose Crrap-And-Tax in the USA. In Europe, the carbon trading system is under the control of organized crime. Since the Democrats are effectively an arm of organized crime in the US, along with the unions, they fully support that idea!
Speaking of organized crime and The Chicago Way, the White House is so eager to get Obamacare passed that they have, according to sources but denied by Rahm “Ballerina” Emanuel, threatened to put Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Senator Nelson doesn’t vote for cloture in the Senate. The heck with national security...we’ve got POLITICAL battles to win!
The Hound of All Media, Senator Chuck Schumer (safety tip for all readers: Never get between Upchuck Schumer and a TV camera or a microphone) was in the news this week for giving a hard time to a flight attendant when she directed him to cease using his cell phone on board the aircraft, according to the safety rules of USAir. After he was finally forced to obey the rules that the Great Unwashed gladly follow, Upchuck called the flight attendant something that won’t get by the censors of most blog sites. (Full disclosure: The Crawfish has a cousin who is a retired flight attendant for a major airline in the US) He was sitting with the UNELECTED junior Senator from Noo Yawk, Kirsten Gillibrand. An unnamed congressional staffer seated behind them heard the exchange and gave the story to Politico.com. Schumer, through a spokesperson, apologized for calling the flight attendant a name and for his other conduct. Gillibrand, being a good Democrat and not knowing that Upchuck had ‘fessed up, lied (a trait of good Democrats) to the media and said Schumer did not use that term at all. Can’t you two get your stories straight?
If you didn’t believe before that the Obama Administration supports those who are traitors against our nation or who oppose us, well we’ve got news for ya. The President has just nominated Mari Del Carmen Aponte for the Ambassadorship to El Salvador. Ms. Aponte was nominated for a diplomatic post in the past, but was rejected because she had been shacking up with a member of the Cuban intelligence services. When questioned by federal authorities about the matter, she refused to cooperate. Since she has that on her record, and is a former board member of the anti-American group “The Race”, also known as the national Council of La Raza, Bur’aq al Obama sees her as a perfect choice for his Administration.
Liberal Democrats will go to great lengths to find ways to spit in the faces of Christians. No blasphemy is too great for them when they want publicity. Witness what DC Mayor Fenty is up to. He managed to get a heterophobe marriage bill passed in DC, and is going to have the bill-signing ceremony in a BAPTIST CHURCH! Obviously, even the Baptists of DC are good little liberals that don’t believe in rules, including those from God. The Bible calls homosexuality an “abomination before God” and forbids it, just like the Constitution forbids a lot of what liberals in DC believe in and perpetrate.
Since union teachers are impossible to fire, no matter what their misconduct, it is hardly surprising to see something like this happen in a Milwaukee elementary school. If this had happened to one of the junior Crawfishes, there’d be some real problems at the school. Hat tip to Poll Katz e-mailer “Ginny”.
The Crawfish is sure that many of his readers have heard by now that our enemies have been hacking into the communications with our drone aircraft. So far, all they’ve been able to do is see what video the unmanned aircraft are sending back to their bases, but eventually they will hack into the control channels. Remember, every single computer tech support call in the world goes to call centers in Pakistan. The military was warned about this 5 years ago, but they’re just now taking action. When the politicians and senior military folks started saying how drones will bee heavily used in the future, The Crawfish and every other enlisted person with avionics experience or computer knowledge said that our enemies would find ways to override the controls or jam all control signals. It’s not like the technology is very difficult and hasn’t been around for decades or anything. How old is the EA-6B Prowler jamming aircraft?
It’s about time! Domino’s Pizza is announcing this week that they are changing the recipes of their pizza, with new crusts, new sauce, and a new cheese blend. The Crawfish has only ordered Domino’s once in the past five years because their taste was not anywhere close to the other chains. Heck, I’ve bought frozen pizza from the grocery stores instead of Domino’s for the same reason!
This sounds like something from Tax Cheat Timmy Geithner, Chris “Countrywide” Dodd, or Bawney Fwank. There’s a new credit card out there with an interest rate that you simply won’t believe.
Townhall blogger “Flame” sent in an interesting article deciphering the rhetoric and language that The Chosen One uses in speech after speech. The liar is exposed once again.
We have another nominee for The Golden DUH! Award. Brain dead Democrats can’t even write their boondoggle earmarks correctly. Representative James Clyburn (D-Congressional Racist Caucus) tried to get $100,000.00 of federal money for a library in his South Carolina district. The money’s going to a library in a California town with the same name. The library in South Carolina had only asked for $50,000.00 to upgrade computers and such, but Clyburn doubled the amount and put the wrong state in the earmark.
Sometimes you’ve just gotta shake your head and wonder what alternate universe liberals live in. The Chosen One says that the federal government “will go bankrupt” unless we spend $2,500,000,000,000.00 on socialist health care. How in the world does spending that kind of money make our debt situation better? Only in the mind of economically-challenged liberals.

12-15-09 The Weekly Claw
Dang. The Crawfish is staring at unemployment in 49 days. Should I start worrying, yet?
Dan Calabrese of North Star National scored an exclusive interview with Representative Peter Hoekstra (R-Meeechigan) regarding the proposed transfer of prisoners from Gitmo to the Thomson Correctional Facility in Illinois. The Obama Administration has promised the people of the Thomson, IL, area plenty of jobs and no risk with this endeavor. If they knew what Hoekstra knows, but can only hint at, would they still want the prisoners from Gitmo, or would they say that the proper thing to do with those prisoners, according to the Geneva Conventions, is to send them to a military tribunal and then to meet their 72 virgin male camels on Viagra?
The best e-mail that I got this week came from Townhall commenter “Donnie”, who sent this post from Paul Revere’s Riders about the public funeral for the four Lakewood, WA, Police Department officers who were murdered in the coffee shop by a muslim black nationalist. I sincerely hope you have plenty of Kleenex standing by for this. A big salute from The Crawfish to all of the organizations that represented, especially the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Way to stand up, folks.
Moody’s Investors Service has put the US and the United Kingdom on notice that they must reduce their growing deficits or face the loss of their AAA credit ratings. Moody’s has already changed how they describe the US and UK, from “resistant” to “resilient”. By keeping those two nations listed as AAA right now, Moody’s is threatening its own credibility, according to some sources.
While the United States is possibly looking the loss of its treasured AAA bond rating, Greece is looking at becoming the first major European nation to go into default since World War 2. According to a former policy director of the Bank of England, Greece has a few bailout options, starting with the European Union. From there, “They’ll probably go to the IMF, have a credible standby program and then aid from Brussels and bilateral aid from selected sovereign governments in Europe and the U.S. will be available.” Wait a second. Aid from the US will be available? WE DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY EITHER!
The Democrats in the House and Senate have sunk to new levels of LOW. In order to pull off the incredibly stoooopid move of raising our debt limit by another $2,000,000,000,000.00 without opposition from the Republicans, they are attaching that bit of legislation to the DEFENSE spending bill. If the GOP tries to filibuster this action, the Dems will point at how the GOP is shortchanging our Armed Forces.
Some folks have said that the Democrats in Congress are spending like drunken Sailors. As a Sailor who occasionally drinks, I resent that comparison. Drunken Sailors have SOME standards, while P-Lousy and Company have none. Drunken Sailors are also spending THEIR OWN money, not money they have printed out of thin air or forcibly taken from other Americans. Drunken Sailors also stop spending when the wallet is empty and the ATM card stops working.
At least the Greek government is admitting that their public sector is riddled with corruption. American government officials continue to deny that The Chicago Way has any corruption associated with it.
As long as we’re discussing the financial services industry, The Crawfish got a story from Poll Katz e-mailer “Ginny” that’ll be sure to cause you to reach for the closest blood pressure meds and Tums. Bawney Fwank (D-Heterophobic Brothels of Taxachusetts) wants to create a new seat (insert your favorite Bawney Fwank joke here) on the federal board that oversees that industry. If that wasn’t bad enough, he wants to give that seat to ACORN!!! The only Republican to publicly make a stink about it is Representative Michelle Bachman, the rising conservative star from Minnesota.
Glo-Bull Warming has struck again, this time in Seattle.
The cold weather isn’t just in the United States. If it was, the Glo-Bull Warming fraudulists would be able to claim some anomaly and discount it, but they can’t do that when there’s snow falling in Australia during the summertime.
One of the world’s foremost weather scientists has this to say about ClimateGate: “The recent 'ClimateGate' revelations coming out of the UK University of East Anglia are but the tip of a giant iceberg of a well-organized international climate-warming conspiracy that has been gathering momentum for the last 25 years.” What are the credentials of the man who said this? How about emeritus professor of atmospheric science at Colorado State University and heads the school's Department of Atmospheric Sciences Tropical Meteorology Project.
Hollyweird leftist Matt Damon just came out and announced his choice of the greatest political leader of the past generation. It is, of course, the political leader featured in his new film. Well, “featured” may be too little of a term. Nelson Mandela is turned into a saint and the greatest leader of all time in the new film, but it is a lie. Hollyweird loves to lionize marxist-socialist-communist leaders, and in Mandela they have one that has performed in true marxist-socialist-communist fashion, and has turned a formerly prospering nation into a pile of wildebeest poo. Oh, you’ve never heard this about Mandela? Luckily for you, Townhall uber-blogger “GunnyG” has an expose on this hero of the far left. The Crawfish’s choices for the greatest political leader of the past generation would be Lady Thatcher and Ronald Wilson Reagan.
Amazingly, as the unemployment and poverty numbers for blacks in America skyrocket, their support of Barack Obama also goes up. In fact, they say that all opposition to Obama is based on racism. It really doesn’t make any sense, until you realize that all of the top black leaders in America since the death of Martin Luther King Jr. have been warlords of the race card. Liberal black American leaders have never proposed any plans to improve the life of their flocks, only more handouts and reasons to blame and hate whitey. Hat tip to Poll Katz e-mailer “Ginny”.
Claw commenter “clyde” sent in this report about the fastest growing community in Colorado. Look for similar communities to sprout up all over the nation as long as the Unholy Troika of Obama/Reid/P-Lousy is in charge of our nation’s fortunes.
Erick Erickson of RedState.com struggled mightily with a post this past week, and I think he did a pretty good job of describing the difference between being conservative (adjective) and being A conservative (noun). He gives three examples of politicians who are conservative by nature (George W. Bush, John Boehner, and Mitch McConnell), and compares them to two actual conservatives (Jim DeMint and Jeb Hensarling).
Y’all know that The Crawfish is always looking for strange stories. Well, regular Claw contributor “beachmom” scored a good one for us. Check it out and you’ll be shaking your head like I was.
If you want a good laugh, we’ve got it for you. The Chosen One’s top economic advisor, Larry Summers, says that “everybody agrees that the recession is over.” If that’s not funny enough, he also says “by spring employment growth will start turning positive.” The Crawfish hopes this is true, since I’ll be unemployed in just over 50 days, but the laughs don’t stop, since the chairwoman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, Dr. Christina Romer, when asked if the recession is over said “Of course not. For the people on Main Street and throughout this country, they are still suffering, the unemployment rate is still 10 percent.” So the Obastaff can’t even make up their minds.
The new Obamacare plan that Dingy Harry Reid and his cohorts have put together behind closed doors does have at least one fan. In fact, Howard “YYYEEEEAAAAAARRRRRRGH!” Dean is even claiming the idea was all his! He also supports the plan because it puts government bureaucracy in charge of health care plans instead of the eeeeeevillllll private insurance companies and drives the nation down a path that can only lead to socialist health care.
Senators Ben Nelson (D-Nebraska) and Joe Lieberman (Independent-Connecticut) also believe that the new Reid-Obamacare plan is a precursor to the “public option” and have said they will still oppose it. Nelson even went a step farther, saying that unless there is language in the bill forbidding the use of federal funds for abortion, he will join the filibuster even if all other issues are resolved to his satisfaction. Keep it up guys, and we might kill this unConstitutional monstrosity completely.
Ezra Klein, a liberal blogger for the Washington Post, can’t believe that Joe Lieberman would oppose this bill. Klein writes, “At this point, Lieberman seems primarily motivated by torturing liberals. That is to say, he seems willing to cause the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people in order to settle an old electoral score.” This kind of inflated rhetoric is beyond civil discourse and is an insult to Joe Lieberman. Not only is he basically saying the Senator is a mass-murderer wannabe, but he is using information from the supposedly non-partisan Urban League that has been debunked numerous times, namely that 137,000 people died from 2000 to 2006 for the sole reason of not having health insurance. Why didn’t they go to the local Emergency Room, which treats all patients regardless of ability to pay?
North Star National’s Dan Calabrese examines how Harry Reid has completely bungled the Obamacare issue. If he would only listen to Joe.
All of the Senators who have pledged to oppose this Obamination of an Obamacare bill if it raises costs to American families need to practice their filibustering skills. The Congressional Budget Office’s analysis of the Senate bill, even without the socialist opti…er, public optio…uh, consumer option shows that many American families will pay up to $15,200.00 per year.
Sometimes, stoooopid criminals save us the expense of a trial.
The Colorado Supreme Court seems to believe that illegal aliens have Constitutional rights, and that IRS records cannot be used to investigate them for identity theft. Earth to Colorado Supreme Court: illegals have no rights in the United States except the right to get deported.
That massive pork-filled spending bill that was passed over the weekend had a nice little amendment stuck in the middle. This amendment proves once again that the Democratic Party will pander to the unions at the expense of America’s children any day of the week, especially black children. So tell me again why 90%+ of the blacks in America still vote for Democrats.

Nobel Speech Gets Clawed
This is a Special Edition of The Claw, dedicated to the acceptance speech President Obama gave when he received his Nobel Peace Prize. Overall, the speech was not as bad as I expected it to be. Most of it was written with realism, not fantasy, but there are plenty of spots that just scream out for rebuttal, and of course I am more than willing to provide it. As usual, it was waaaaay too long, and too much of it was directly or indirectly about the unprecedented HIM! This is gonna get ugly, so buckle up.
Here’s the transcript, with The Crawfish’s comments in italics:
"Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, distinguished members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, citizens of America, and citizens of the world, I receive this honor with deep gratitude and great humility. It is an award that speaks to our highest aspirations -- that for all the cruelty and hardship of our world, we are not mere prisoners of fate. Our actions matter, and can bend history in the direction of justice.”
Humility? Puh-leeze!
“And yet I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the considerable controversy that your generous decision has generated. In part, this is because I am at the beginning, and not the end, of my labors on the world stage.”
Hopefully, you’re not too far from the end of your time on the world stage.
“Compared to some of the giants of history who've received this prize -- Schweitzer and King; Marshall and Mandela -- my accomplishments are slight.”
Your accomplishments are: getting elected to the Illinois Senate, getting elected to the US Senate, and getting elected President. That is IT!
“And then there are the men and women around the world who have been jailed and beaten in the pursuit of justice; those who toil in humanitarian organizations to relieve suffering; the unrecognized millions whose quiet acts of courage and compassion inspire even the most hardened cynics. I cannot argue with those who find these men and women -- some known, some obscure to all but those they help -- to be far more deserving of this honor than I.
But perhaps the most profound issue surrounding my receipt of this prize is the fact that I am the Commander-in-Chief of the military of a nation in the midst of two wars. One of these wars is winding down. The other is a conflict that America did not seek; one in which we are joined by 42 other countries -- including Norway -- in an effort to defend ourselves and all nations from further attacks.”
We did not seek either war. Iraq’s breaking of the terms of the 1991 cease fire obligated us to return and remove Saddam’s government. Try reading that document.
“Still, we are at war, and I'm responsible for the deployment of thousands of young Americans to battle in a distant land. Some will kill, and some will be killed. And so I come here with an acute sense of the costs of armed conflict -- filled with difficult questions about the relationship between war and peace, and our effort to replace one with the other.
Now these questions are not new. War, in one form or another, appeared with the first man. At the dawn of history, its morality was not questioned; it was simply a fact, like drought or disease -- the manner in which tribes and then civilizations sought power and settled their differences.
And over time, as codes of law sought to control violence within groups, so did philosophers and clerics and statesmen seek to regulate the destructive power of war. The concept of a "just war" emerged, suggesting that war is justified only when certain conditions were met: if it is waged as a last resort or in self-defense; if the force used is proportional; and if, whenever possible, civilians are spared from violence.
Of course, we know that for most of history, this concept of "just war" was rarely observed. The capacity of human beings to think up new ways to kill one another proved inexhaustible, as did our capacity to exempt from mercy those who look different or pray to a different God. Wars between armies gave way to wars between nations -- total wars in which the distinction between combatant and civilian became blurred. In the span of 30 years, such carnage would twice engulf this continent. And while it's hard to conceive of a cause more just than the defeat of the Third Reich and the Axis powers, World War II was a conflict in which the total number of civilians who died exceeded the number of soldiers who perished.”
What about the total war that Islam declared on the rest of the world over 1300 years ago? All non-muslims are to be converted, enslaved, or put to the sword, and the whole world is to be put under Sharia Law, according to the commandments of that Religion of Perpetual Hatred.
“In the wake of such destruction, and with the advent of the nuclear age, it became clear to victor and vanquished alike that the world needed institutions to prevent another world war. And so, a quarter century after the United States Senate rejected the League of Nations -- an idea for which Woodrow Wilson received this prize -- America led the world in constructing an architecture to keep the peace: a Marshall Plan and a United Nations, mechanisms to govern the waging of war, treaties to protect human rights, prevent genocide, restrict the most dangerous weapons.
In many ways, these efforts succeeded. Yes, terrible wars have been fought, and atrocities committed. But there has been no Third World War.”
Actually, the 1939-1945 war was the Third World War. The Second World War was 1914-1918, and the original World War is the war of Islam vs. the non-Islamic world that started 13 centuries ago and will not end until one side or the other is completely destroyed.
“The Cold War ended with jubilant crowds dismantling a wall. Commerce has stitched much of the world together. Billions have been lifted from poverty. The ideals of liberty and self- determination, equality and the rule of law have haltingly advanced. We are the heirs of the fortitude and foresight of generations past, and it is a legacy for which my own country is rightfully proud.
And yet, a decade into a new century, this old architecture is buckling under the weight of new threats. The world may no longer shudder at the prospect of war between two nuclear superpowers, but proliferation may increase the risk of catastrophe. Terrorism has long been a tactic, but modern technology allows a few small men with outsized rage to murder innocents on a horrific scale.
Moreover, wars between nations have increasingly given way to wars within nations. The resurgence of ethnic or sectarian conflicts; the growth of secessionist movements, insurgencies, and failed states -- all these things have increasingly trapped civilians in unending chaos.
In today's wars, many more civilians are killed than soldiers; the seeds of future conflict are sown, economies are wrecked, civil societies torn asunder, refugees amassed, children scarred.
I do not bring with me today a definitive solution to the problems of war. What I do know is that meeting these challenges will require the same vision, hard work, and persistence of those men and women who acted so boldly decades ago. And it will require us to think in new ways about the notions of just war and the imperatives of a just peace.
We must begin by acknowledging the hard truth: We will not eradicate violent conflict in our lifetimes. There will be times when nations -- acting individually or in concert -- will find the use of force not only necessary but morally justified.
I make this statement mindful of what Martin Luther King Jr. said in this same ceremony years ago: 'Violence never brings permanent peace. It solves no social problem: it merely creates new and more complicated ones.' As someone who stands here as a direct consequence of Dr. King's life work, I am living testimony to the moral force of non-violence. I know there's nothing weak -- nothing passive -- nothing naive -- in the creed and lives of Gandhi and King.”
Do NOT try to tie yourself in with the legacy of Dr. King. He believed in not judging people by skin color, but rather by the “content of their character”, which is not what you and the Democrats do.
“But as a head of state sworn to protect and defend my nation, I cannot be guided by their examples alone. I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people. For make no mistake: Evil does exist in the world. A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler's armies. Negotiations cannot convince al Qaeda's leaders to lay down their arms. To say that force may sometimes be necessary is not a call to cynicism -- it is a recognition of history; the imperfections of man and the limits of reason.
I raise this point, I begin with this point because in many countries there is a deep ambivalence about military action today, no matter what the cause. And at times, this is joined by a reflexive suspicion of America, the world's sole military superpower.
But the world must remember that it was not simply international institutions -- not just treaties and declarations -- that brought stability to a post-World War II world. Whatever mistakes we have made, the plain fact is this: The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms. The service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has promoted peace and prosperity from Germany to Korea, and enabled democracy to take hold in places like the Balkans. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will. We have done so out of enlightened self-interest -- because we seek a better future for our children and grandchildren, and we believe that their lives will be better if others' children and grandchildren can live in freedom and prosperity.
Of course he had to talk about mistakes that the USA has made. The "America Sux World Apology Tour 2009" continues.
So yes, the instruments of war do have a role to play in preserving the peace. And yet this truth must coexist with another -- that no matter how justified, war promises human tragedy. The soldier's courage and sacrifice is full of glory, expressing devotion to country, to cause, to comrades in arms. But war itself is never glorious, and we must never trumpet it as such.
So part of our challenge is reconciling these two seemingly inreconcilable truths -- that war is sometimes necessary, and war at some level is an expression of human folly. Concretely, we must direct our effort to the task that President Kennedy called for long ago. 'Let us focus,' he said, 'on a more practical, more attainable peace, based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions."' A gradual evolution of human institutions.
What might this evolution look like? What might these practical steps be?
To begin with, I believe that all nations -- strong and weak alike -- must adhere to standards that govern the use of force. I -- like any head of state -- reserve the right to act unilaterally if necessary to defend my nation. Nevertheless, I am convinced that adhering to standards, international standards, strengthens those who do, and isolates and weakens those who don't.
The world rallied around America after the 9/11 attacks, and continues to support our efforts in Afghanistan, because of the horror of those senseless attacks and the recognized principle of self- defense. Likewise, the world recognized the need to confront Saddam Hussein when he invaded Kuwait -- a consensus that sent a clear message to all about the cost of aggression.
Furthermore, America -- in fact, no nation -- can insist that others follow the rules of the road if we refuse to follow them ourselves. For when we don't, our actions appear arbitrary and undercut the legitimacy of future interventions, no matter how justified.”
Name one single instance in which we have done so. I imagine that you are referring to Iraq, once again demonstrating that you have no clue about the laws regulating international relations.
“And this becomes particularly important when the purpose of military action extends beyond self-defense or the defense of one nation against an aggressor. More and more, we all confront difficult questions about how to prevent the slaughter of civilians by their own government, or to stop a civil war whose violence and suffering can engulf an entire region.
I believe that force can be justified on humanitarian grounds, as it was in the Balkans, or in other places that have been scarred by war. Inaction tears at our conscience and can lead to more costly intervention later. That's why all responsible nations must embrace the role that militaries with a clear mandate can play to keep the peace.”
The Balkans conflict was, and is, none of our business. The European nations should have been 100% responsible for handling it.
“America's commitment to global security will never waver. But in a world in which threats are more diffuse, and missions more complex, America cannot act alone. America alone cannot secure the peace. This is true in Afghanistan. This is true in failed states like Somalia, where terrorism and piracy is joined by famine and human suffering. And sadly, it will continue to be true in unstable regions for years to come.
The leaders and soldiers of NATO countries, and other friends and allies, demonstrate this truth through the capacity and courage they've shown in Afghanistan. But in many countries, there is a disconnect between the efforts of those who serve and the ambivalence of the broader public. I understand why war is not popular, but I also know this: The belief that peace is desirable is rarely enough to achieve it. Peace requires responsibility. Peace entails sacrifice. That's why NATO continues to be indispensable. That's why we must strengthen U.N. and regional peacekeeping, and not leave the task to a few countries. That's why we honor those who return home from peacekeeping and training abroad to Oslo and Rome; to Ottawa and Sydney; to Dhaka and Kigali -- we honor them not as makers of war, but of wagers -- but as wagers of peace.
Let me make one final point about the use of force. Even as we make difficult decisions about going to war, we must also think clearly about how we fight it. The Nobel Committee recognized this truth in awarding its first prize for peace to Henry Dunant -- the founder of the Red Cross, and a driving force behind the Geneva Conventions.
Where force is necessary, we have a moral and strategic interest in binding ourselves to certain rules of conduct. And even as we confront a vicious adversary that abides by no rules, I believe the United States of America must remain a standard bearer in the conduct of war. That is what makes us different from those whom we fight. That is a source of our strength. That is why I prohibited torture. That is why I ordered the prison at Guantanamo Bay closed. And that is why I have reaffirmed America's commitment to abide by the Geneva Conventions. We lose ourselves when we compromise the very ideals that we fight to defend. And we honor -- we honor those ideals by upholding them not when it's easy, but when it is hard.”
If we abide by the Geneva Conventions, then we will treat all of the Al-Qaeda and Taliban personnel that we have captured as illegal combatants and give them exactly zero rights, interrogating them in whatever manner we choose, and sealing their fate through military tribunals. Try looking up what constitutes a legal combatant and a Prisoner Of War according to Geneva. Instead, you want to give them Constitutional rights and let them go free, since they weren't given Miranda rights during interrogations.
“I have spoken at some length to the question that must weigh on our minds and our hearts as we choose to wage war. But let me now turn to our effort to avoid such tragic choices, and speak of three ways that we can build a just and lasting peace.
First, in dealing with those nations that break rules and laws, I believe that we must develop alternatives to violence that are tough enough to actually change behavior -- for if we want a lasting peace, then the words of the international community must mean something. Those regimes that break the rules must be held accountable. Sanctions must exact a real price. Intransigence must be met with increased pressure -- and such pressure exists only when the world stands together as one.
One urgent example is the effort to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, and to seek a world without them.”
And with that statement, he proves that he is way too naïve to be President of the United States. The technology exists, so there will always be nuclear weapons. You can’t wish away science. Regimes that wish to expand and conquer will always employ scientists and technicians to build the most destructive weapons that they can. Islamist groups will always strive to build such weapons to use against Israel, all who support Israel, and all who resist the Worldwide Caliphate.
“In the middle of the last century, nations agreed to be bound by a treaty whose bargain is clear: All will have access to peaceful nuclear power; those without nuclear weapons will forsake them; and those with nuclear weapons will work towards disarmament. I am committed to upholding this treaty. It is a centerpiece of my foreign policy. And I'm working with President Medvedev to reduce America and Russia's nuclear stockpiles.
But it is also incumbent upon all of us to insist that nations like Iran and North Korea do not game the system. Those who claim to respect international law cannot avert their eyes when those laws are flouted. Those who care for their own security cannot ignore the danger of an arms race in the Middle East or East Asia. Those who seek peace cannot stand idly by as nations arm themselves for nuclear war.
The same principle applies to those who violate international laws by brutalizing their own people. When there is genocide in Darfur, systematic rape in Congo, repression in Burma -- there must be consequences. Yes, there will be engagement; yes, there will be diplomacy -- but there must be consequences when those things fail. And the closer we stand together, the less likely we will be faced with the choice between armed intervention and complicity in oppression.”
It cannot be a violation of INTERNATIONAL law if the action is within one nation. No nation has the right to interfere with the purely internal dealings of another nation. It’s called national sovereignty. Oh, that’s right. Your desire to have our own borders opened to all shows that you do not believe in national sovereignty.
“This brings me to a second point -- the nature of the peace that we seek. For peace is not merely the absence of visible conflict. Only a just peace based on the inherent rights and dignity of every individual can truly be lasting.
It was this insight that drove drafters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights after the Second World War. In the wake of devastation, they recognized that if human rights are not protected, peace is a hollow promise.
And yet too often, these words are ignored. For some countries, the failure to uphold human rights is excused by the false suggestion that these are somehow Western principles, foreign to local cultures or stages of a nation's development. And within America, there has long been a tension between those who describe themselves as realists or idealists -- a tension that suggests a stark choice between the narrow pursuit of interests or an endless campaign to impose our values around the world.
I reject these choices. I believe that peace is unstable where citizens are denied the right to speak freely or worship as they please;”
So you oppose all of the Islamic nations?
“choose their own leaders or assemble without fear. Pent-up grievances fester, and the suppression of tribal and religious identity can lead to violence. We also know that the opposite is true. Only when Europe became free did it finally find peace. America has never fought a war against a democracy, and our closest friends are governments that protect the rights of their citizens. No matter how callously defined, neither America's interests -- nor the world's -- are served by the denial of human aspirations.
So even as we respect the unique culture and traditions of different countries, America will always be a voice for those aspirations that are universal. We will bear witness to the quiet dignity of reformers like Aung Sang Suu Kyi; to the bravery of Zimbabweans who cast their ballots in the face of beatings; to the hundreds of thousands who have marched silently through the streets of Iran. It is telling that the leaders of these governments fear the aspirations of their own people more than the power of any other nation.”
Kinda reminds us of you and the rest of the Democrats, who fear conservatives and Fox News more than they fear Islamic terrorists.
“And it is the responsibility of all free people and free nations to make clear that these movements -- these movements of hope and history -- they have us on their side.
Let me also say this: The promotion of human rights cannot be about exhortation alone. At times, it must be coupled with painstaking diplomacy. I know that engagement with repressive regimes lacks the satisfying purity of indignation. But I also know that sanctions without outreach -- condemnation without discussion -- can carry forward only a crippling status quo. No repressive regime can move down a new path unless it has the choice of an open door.
In light of the Cultural Revolution's horrors, Nixon's meeting with Mao appeared inexcusable -- and yet it surely helped set China on a path where millions of its citizens have been lifted from poverty and connected to open societies.”
And yet China remains an oppressive regime and only a semi-open society.
“Pope John Paul's engagement with Poland created space not just for the Catholic Church, but for labor leaders like Lech Walesa. Ronald Reagan's efforts on arms control and embrace of perestroika not only improved relations with the Soviet Union, but empowered dissidents throughout Eastern Europe.”
Uh, Reagan did NOT embrace perestroika. He DEFEATED it.
“There's no simple formula here. But we must try as best we can to balance isolation and engagement, pressure and incentives, so that human rights and dignity are advanced over time.
Third, a just peace includes not only civil and political rights -- it must encompass economic security and opportunity. For true peace is not just freedom from fear, but freedom from want.
It is undoubtedly true that development rarely takes root without security; it is also true that security does not exist where human beings do not have access to enough food, or clean water, or the medicine and shelter they need to survive. It does not exist where children can't aspire to a decent education or a job that supports a family. The absence of hope can rot a society from within.
And that's why helping farmers feed their own people -- or nations educate their children and care for the sick -- is not mere charity. It's also why the world must come together to confront climate change. There is little scientific dispute that if we do nothing, we will face more drought, more famine, more mass displacement -- all of which will fuel more conflict for decades.”
Sorry, but there is a whole lot of scientific dispute. Have you heard about those ten-year-old e-mails that were actually sent last month and were publicized recently? You know...ClimateGate? Of course you haven't. Your handlers and the media, but I repeat myself, cut off all debate by saying that the science is settled, especially when they are faced with the evidence that Man-made global warming is a proven myth.
“For this reason, it is not merely scientists and environmental activists who call for swift and forceful action -- it's military leaders in my own country and others who understand our common security hangs in the balance.
Agreements among nations. Strong institutions. Support for human rights. Investments in development. All these are vital ingredients in bringing about the evolution that President Kennedy spoke about. And yet, I do not believe that we will have the will, the determination, the staying power, to complete this work without something more -- and that's the continued expansion of our moral imagination; an insistence that there's something irreducible that we all share.
As the world grows smaller, you might think it would be easier for human beings to recognize how similar we are; to understand that we're all basically seeking the same things; that we all hope for the chance to live out our lives with some measure of happiness and fulfillment for ourselves and our families.
And yet somehow, given the dizzying pace of globalization, the cultural leveling of modernity, it perhaps comes as no surprise that people fear the loss of what they cherish in their particular identities -- their race, their tribe, and perhaps most powerfully their religion. In some places, this fear has led to conflict. At times, it even feels like we're moving backwards. We see it in the Middle East, as the conflict between Arabs and Jews seems to harden. We see it in nations that are torn asunder by tribal lines.
And most dangerously, we see it in the way that religion is used to justify the murder of innocents by those who have distorted and defiled the great religion of Islam, and who attacked my country from Afghanistan.”
They have not “distorted and defiled” Islam. They have taken the commandments of the supposedly holy book of that religion at its word. What the Pedophilic False Prophet Mohammed wrote, they follow.
“These extremists are not the first to kill in the name of God; the cruelties of the Crusades are amply recorded. But they remind us that no Holy War can ever be a just war. For if you truly believe that you are carrying out divine will, then there is no need for restraint -- no need to spare the pregnant mother, or the medic, or the Red Cross worker, or even a person of one's own faith. Such a warped view of religion is not just incompatible with the concept of peace, but I believe it's incompatible with the very purpose of faith -- for the one rule that lies at the heart of every major religion is that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us.”
Silly pseudoChristian. Islam has no such rule. You should know that since you were raised as one of them.
“Adhering to this law of love has always been the core struggle of human nature. For we are fallible. We make mistakes, and fall victim to the temptations of pride, and power, and sometimes evil. Even those of us with the best of intentions will at times fail to right the wrongs before us.
But we do not have to think that human nature is perfect for us to still believe that the human condition can be perfected. We do not have to live in an idealized world to still reach for those ideals that will make it a better place. The non-violence practiced by men like Gandhi and King may not have been practical or possible in every circumstance, but the love that they preached -- their fundamental faith in human progress -- that must always be the North Star that guides us on our journey.
For if we lose that faith -- if we dismiss it as silly or naive; if we divorce it from the decisions that we make on issues of war and peace -- then we lose what's best about humanity. We lose our sense of possibility. We lose our moral compass.
Like generations have before us, we must reject that future. As Dr. King said at this occasion so many years ago, 'I refuse to accept despair as the final response to the ambiguities of history. I refuse to accept the idea that the 'isness' of man's present condition makes him morally incapable of reaching up for the eternal 'oughtness' that forever confronts him.'
Let us reach for the world that ought to be -- that spark of the divine that still stirs within each of our souls.
Somewhere today, in the here and now, in the world as it is, a soldier sees he's outgunned, but stands firm to keep the peace. Somewhere today, in this world, a young protester awaits the brutality of her government, but has the courage to march on. Somewhere today, a mother facing punishing poverty still takes the time to teach her child, scrapes together what few coins she has to send that child to school -- because she believes that a cruel world still has a place for that child's dreams.
Let us live by their example. We can acknowledge that oppression will always be with us, and still strive for justice. We can admit the intractability of depravation, and still strive for dignity. Clear-eyed, we can understand that there will be war, and still strive for peace. We can do that -- for that is the story of human progress; that's the hope of all the world; and at this moment of challenge, that must be our work here on Earth.
Thank you very much."

You’re welcome.

12-11-09 The Weekend Claw
What has been the top news story over the past week? Has it been ClimateGate? Of course not, since the lame stream media is still covering for the left wingnuts. Was it the International Fraud Conference in Copenhagen? Close, but no banana. Was it Obamacare? Nah. They’re trying to keep those shenanigans under wraps. The Nobel Peace Price presentation? Nope. If you said Tiger Woods and all of the women who may or may not be associated with him, WE HAVE A WINNER! In case you’re wonderin’, no The Crawfish doesn’t care about Tiger Woods’ private life. I’m just a-wonderin’ how many of those women are going to pose for Playboy, Penthouse, and the like…and when those issues are comin’ out. Well, one of my Navy jobs has been Quality Assurance!
In my Tuesday edition, I highlighted how $264,000.00+ has been spent on each job supposedly created by the “stimulus”, and now I’ve found out why that number is so high. The lead pollster for the Hillary! campaign, Mark Penn, got a nice payoff. “Federal records show that $5.97 million from the $787 billion stimulus helped preserve three jobs at Burson-Marsteller, the global public-relations and communications firm headed by Penn.” That’s $2,000,000.00 per job saved! No federal money should be spent on people who think they’re worth anywhere near that amount of money per year, especially if their job has nothing to do with the real economy. Political hacks don’t have real jobs. They can be (and are already) paid by the contributions a campaign gets. That’s what those donations are for!
We also discussed the panty-chasing ways of Senator Max Baucus, of Obamacare fame. Not only did he try to get his girlfriend a new job as US Attorney for Montana, but it has now come out that he gave her a $14,000.00 raise and took her on a government-paid vacation to Asia and the Middle East, even though she wasn’t one of his foreign policy advisors. Will there be an ethics investigation? Not as long as the Democrats are in control of the Senate! People of Montana, send this jassack to the unemployment line ASAP!
When it comes to our allies of only 64 years and our somewhat allies in the Middle East, His Majesty King Barack I is more than happy to bow to their royalty. Compare that to how he treats the royalty of longtime allies who have actually fought major wars with us. Queen Elizabeth got a pat on the back from the First Fashion Disaster, and now the King of Norway is getting snubbed by The Chosen One. In fact, most of the activities that the Nobel Peace Prize winner normally partakes in are getting blown off by Barack Obama. It is kinda fitting. Since he won the award for no apparent reason, there’s no apparent reason why he should attend the events.
His Nobel Prize acceptance speech was another exercise in Bush and America bashing, but I’ll deal with that in a special issue of The Claw this weekend devoted entirely to the speech. Stand by to buckle your seat belts for that one.
In the 2008 elections, the Democrats promised to stop all of the earmarks and wasteful spending that had been seen during the Bush Administration. Since this was a series of promises by Democrats to stop wasteful spending, we all knew it was nothing but lies, and we were correct. So far this year, spending bills coming out of Congress have included 7,577 earmarks for over $6,000,000,000.00. They will gladly spend $13,500,000.00 for a bus lane on Wilshire Boulevard in El Lay (an obviously proper use of FEDERAL funds if I ever saw one), but they shortchange state and local prisons by $70,000,000.00 compared to last year for funds to lock up illegals who have been caught breaking laws in addition to immigration laws.
Since the early part of his campaign in 2008, Barack Obama has been fear mongering with the American people. Everything is a crisis. We had to pass the $800,000,000,000.00 “stimulus” immediately or the world would end. We’ve got to socialize health care immediately or all Americans will die. Crrap-and-Tax must get passed tout suite or the sky will burn and the oceans boil…and if we don’t pass it the EPA will institute it through their own interpretation of the Clean Air Act of 1970. Remember, this is the Administration whose motto is “Never let a crisis go to waste!” Anyway, The Anointed One actually had the gall to tell Republican House leaders on Wednesday that the GOP needs to “stop trying to frighten the American people.” WHAT????
Despite all of the actual scientific proof to the contrary, the Secretary General of the Useless Nations came out with this statement: “Nothing that has come out in the public as a result of the recent email hackings has cast doubt on the basic scientific message on climate change and that message is quite clear -- that climate change is happening much, much faster than we realized and we human beings are the primary cause.” Remember that nothing shall come between the UN and their agenda, especially not real science.
The Prophet Algoracle dismisses the ClimateGate e-mails as insignificant, especially since, as he claims, they are all at least 10 years old. So sorry, Mr. Inconvenient Truth, but some of those e-mails are less than one MONTH old. Your fraud is showing.
All of the pro-man-made global warming scientific data was supposedly “peer reviewed”, but when all of the “peers” are in on the scam because that’s where they get all of their money, it becomes what Dan Calabrese of North Star National calls the call-your-own-fouls-basketball-game system for scientists.
The Associated Press is clearly taking sides in the issue (I know, big surprise). They are completely ignoring reality and going with whatever the White House wants them to say. Dan Calabrese of North Star National says that AP stands for All Propaganda.
What does Sarahcuda have to say about the whole Glo-Bull Warming and ClimateGate situation? I’m glad you asked. She has put out a fine editorial column entitled “Copenhagen’s Political Science” and it is well worth the read. For someone who was blasted during the campaign as a lightweight on the issues, she seems to know a lot more about this issue than Obama, Biden, P-Lousy, Reid, Hoyer, Schumer, and the rest of the Democrats in DC combined.
The Prophet Algoracle didn’t like what Palin had to say. He replied that global warming “a principle in physics. It’s like gravity. It exists.” She’s a “denier”. The science is settled. That brought about a couple of really good replies from Sarahcuda: “Perhaps he’s right. Climate change is like gravity – a naturally occurring phenomenon that existed long before, and will exist long after, any governmental attempts to affect it” and “Vice President Gore, the Climategate scandal exists. You might even say that it’s sort of like gravity: you simply can’t deny it.” She also noted that just because there’s been 20 years of study by scientists, that doesn’t mean that the science is settled, especially since the lead scientists are all implicated in the falsifying of the findings.
Meanwhile, video has surfaced from a House hearing in March of 2007, in which Representative Joe Barton (TX-6) gets the Goracle to admit that the historical record shows carbon dioxide not leading to warming. In fact, warming leads to increased CO2 levels, with the CO2 levels lagging temperature increases by 200-1000 years. That means we have no need to punish America with Crrap-and-Tax.
The American section of the Copenhagen is quite different from the low-key, demure displays of the past. To quote the commercials from Overstock.com, “It’s All About the O!” In support of this effort, The One now says that Glo-Bull Warming is a matter of national security. IT’S AN EMERGENCY! Just another “crisis” for this Administration to take advantage of.
Some REAL scientists are having their own conference in Copenhagen, and they have proof that global climate change and temperature fluctuation is caused by…wait for it…wait…trumpet fanfare please…solar activity!
Since the EPA made its determination that bad breath…er, carbon dioxide is a hazardous gas, the White House has come out and told Congress that they had better act on regulating CO2 before the EPA does so in a manner that would be harmful to business. If you don’t see this as a pre-planned course of action with the intention of forcing through action that is designed to wreck American businesses, you are one naïve puppy. The Wall Street Journal’s editorial writers certainly noticed what is happening.
If you don’t believe me when it comes to the impending disaster of Obamacare, maybe you’ll believe the Dean and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Who knows health care better, him or the Unholy Troika of Obama, Reid, and P-Lousy?
Dingy Harry has said that the Obamacare bill is THE most pressing issue in the world, and that the Senate would have to work continually, including weekends, to get it done before Christmas…er, sorry, the Winter Celebration. Well, now Dingy has other plans. You see, things ain’t lookin’ so good for his re-election in 2010, so he has scheduled a $1,000.00+ per plate fundraiser this weekend to boost his chances. This means he needs to have the Senate take the weekend off, which he previously said he wouldn’t let happen in Obamacare hadn’t passed. Oh, and by the way, the fundraiser is in NEW ORLEANS! I thought N’awlins was still in deep financial doo-doo and needed all sorts of extra federal spending, but they’re good enough to have a big fundraiser? Why is he doing his fundraising in Louisiana when he is a Senator from Nevada? That’s one campaign finance law I’d love to see changed. Only people who are legal to vote for a candidate should be allowed to contribute to that candidate.
If you didn’t understand that the Democrats in our nation believe in a completely different set of moral values than those traditionally held by Americans, Christians, and Jews, then The Crawfish has found yet another example for your education. Diane “MilCon” Feinstein (Jassack-Californication) says that it is “morally correct” to fund abortion with tax dollars taken from pro-life Americans.
If your family is deeply in debt, do you cut back spending or do you open up 45 more credit card accounts and max them out? The Democrats have decided that they need more credit cards. They want to raise the federal debt ceiling by $1,800,000,000,000.00 right now. Why do they feel this sudden urge? First of all, it is the holiday season, so lots of folks aren’t paying attention to news like that. Secondly, they want to get it done now so they don’t have to raise the limit right before the 2010 elections. If they get it done now, the voters won’t remember in November. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer actually said “We’ve incurred this debt. We have to pay our bills”, but this has nothing to do with paying the bills. This is just putting us deeper in debt, so we can pay more on interest every year.
Tuesday’s edition featured a snippet of Obamindoctrination of children in public schools. Well, it’s getting worse. This time the indoctrination isn’t about Obama, but rather that the US is completely evil, especially those devils known as white men, and marxism is the answer. The head of this program being released by the History Channel is a long-noted anti-American marxist by the name of Howard Zinn. If this kind of stuff doesn’t make you want to blow up all of Hollyweird, I don’t know what will.
Is this a slap in the face of all conservatives or what? At the annual White House Christmas Party, some of the cookies were a blatant endorsement of a bunch of lawbreakers that have been major supporters of Barack Obama dating back to his community organizer days. The cookies were ACORNs!
The chutzpah of the Kennedy family is out of the box again. Despite their penchants for drunkenness, rape, adultery, and abortion promotion, the family is now lecturing Catholic bishops on how to be good Catholics.
Here’s the latest update from the Followers of the Pedophilic False Prophet. More muslims from America joining the jihad overseas. Their imams here in the states should be immediately arrested and deported.
